2012Pinterest Pins: How to Create Cool Images Even If You Don’t Have Photoshop Skills
I envy those who are able to create super cool graphics with Photoshop. I really do. There I’ve said it. LOL! I don’t have Photoshop and I don’t know how to use it. Makes sense right? I tried but it’s just not my cup of tea. You are reading this post because you probably feel the same way. While hiring a graphic designer is an excellent idea, I’ve decided to do my own graphics a long time ago because of two reasons: (1) I ended up re-designing the graphics I paid for because I didn’t like them, and (2) I had to wait for the graphic designer to respond to me and I ended up with several reminders and follow-up emails. So what do you do if you don’t have Photoshop skills and you want to create your graphics by yourself to pin to Pinterest or post on Facebook? Let me share with you how I do it.
I create all my graphics without expensive software. The tools I use are the basic tools which you can access on your computer (such as Word and Paint) and online photo editing tools (more on that later). These are all free tools. Just a few of the graphics that I have created are: e-books, banners, Facebook cover photos, Twitter and YouTube backgrounds, images for blog posts, and my favorite—images to pin on Pinterest and post on Facebook for myself and for my clients.
Are you ready to create cool graphics? Let’s get started! Watch this week’s Teach Me Tuesday video for a step-by-step tutorial.
In the comments below, I want you to tell me:
- What is your favorite tool to use for editing images or creating graphics?
- Do you go for paid photo editing tools or pay a graphic designer instead?

Hi Karen, I found you in the Social Buzz Club. Hopped right up with PicMonkey, which is so easy to use.
Not quite a dense as Pixlr, though I really like that app too. Thanks for great content. I will share on. xo Suzi

Hi Suzi! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the Social Buzz Club, so I’ve been getting active again this week.
PicMonkey is my favorite tool since it’s very easy to use. I reviewed Ipiccy on the video because it has more features compared to PicMonkey. But both are excellent for creating graphics. I’ve tried Pixlr but it’s not as user-friendly, and it’s more like Photoshop (which I think is too complicated for newbies). Thanks a lot for dropping by and for sharing my post.

Hi Karen! Thanks for these tools. Will give them a try today as I’ll also create pinnable images for my clients.
By the way, I use SnagIt for creating images and then Share As Image (formerly Pin a Quote). I love using Share As Image because it makes it easy to create simple text images. You might want to check it out: http://thevirtualonlineassistant.com/how-to-pin-a-quote-to-pinterest/

Hi Nica! I’ve come across Share As Image and it’s very similar to Pinstamatic. Yes it does make things a lot easier. I love your tutorial!
As for Snagit, I don’t know why I’ve been debating with myself for a long time whether to use it or not. LOL… At first I thought it was just a tool to take snapshots on your screen, and now that you’ve mentioned the tool, I’ll download it.
